Taino Knobbed Axe
A fine Taino Knobbed Axe. Hispaniola. This elegantly formed piece is fashioned out of a very hard granular stone, and would have been challenging to create with the stone tools and sanding materials available at the time. It is unlikely this piece had a purely utilitarian purpose, too much effort and concept embodied in its production.
See similar illustrated "Twenty-Fifth Annual Report of the Bureau of American Ethnology", Washington, D.C. 1907. Circa 1000-1500 AD.
Ex. Neil Becker, New York.
8.5 in. x 3.5 in. / 21.59 cm. x 8.89 cm. // 1 lbs. 1.0 oz. / 750 g.
