COMMENTS
In her masterpiece in the tapestry medium “On Verra (We Will See)” (1972) June Wayne floats the necklace of DNA in the outer cosmos, amidst terrestrial waves. The origins of life and our future are placed front and center with an errant meteor impacting the water below the double helix.
On Verra combines three preoccupations of Wayne: our genetic inheritance and future, the forces of the outer cosmos, and the power of water, the latter a subject which had stimulated her curiosity from her earliest days.
On Verra transitions us from Wayne's exploration of DNA and our genetic inheritance, to the artist's fascination with the natural phenomena of water and waves, and their power.
